Becoming a Pilates teacher takes time and effort. Balanced Body’s curriculum was designed to make the process easy, flexible and affordable. Courses are modular and progressive, allowing students to progress at a pace that aligns with their individual goals and lifestyle.

Whether you’re balancing a full time job, parenting responsibilities, or have other commitments you can set the pace. No matter how quickly or slowly you go, our approach ensures that becoming a certified teacher is both achievable and sustainable.

Each certification requires self practice, observation and practice teaching hours. These hours will begin accumulating after your first course. Once all requirements are met for your certification type, you can apply to test out and become a certified Pilates Teacher.

  • The education path you choose determines the career opportunities available to you. With Balanced Body Education there are 4 certification levels. The industry gold standard, Pilates Comprehensive certification, is the most expansive training including Pilates Mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table/Cadillac, Chair and Barrels. Mat and Reformer certificationexplores the relationship between Mat work and Reformer exercises. The Reformer level certificationfocuses on exercises teaching applications and programming specific to the Reformer. If teaching Mat classes is what you desire, there is a certification level that focuses on the Mat repertoire and movement foundations.

  • Personal mastery of movement skills and critical reasoning are part of what makes your classroom experience come to life. Throughout the process, you are encouraged to practice the exercises yourself, to get a better accustomed to the equipment and how exercises can flow smoothly from one to another. The observation hours allow you to watch how clients respond and how teachers organize, cue and communicate during classes. These hours combined provide you the opportunity to ask questions and to see the relationship between what you learn and how you teach.

  • Student teaching is where you take the entirety of your coursework and start to put it into practice. You will begin to gain confidence as an instructor, practice your cueing and teaching skills, and start to reason critically in actual practice. This is where you find your own voice and unique individuality as a Pilates instructor.

  • Passing the practical and written exams is a critical piece in your educational journey. It is an opportunity to personally present your knowledge and receive invaluable feedback from your Balanced Body Educator whose goal is to help you round out what you have learned and give you options for continued growth so you can be a successful instructor. Once you have passed your exam and become a certified instructor in your chosen program you become part of a strong and committed Balanced Body instructor community.

The Optimist strives to create thoughtful, creative, and successful Pilates teachers.
